Privacy Policy
Effective: September 30, 2026
SSEM Markdown Editor (the “extension”) and its information website (https://levelupsoft.com/ext-ssem-markdown-editor/en/, the “website”) are run free of charge by SSEM DEV, an independent developer (the “developer”), in compliance with Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act and other applicable laws. This policy explains what information the extension and the website handle and how.
In short: the extension collects no personal information and sends nothing to the developer or any other server. Markdown documents are rendered only inside your browser, and settings are stored only in this browser. There is no account, analytics, advertising or tracking.
1. Personal information we collect
The developer collects no personal information through the extension.
- There is no sign-up or login.
- No usage statistics, analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting tools are included.
- The content of documents you open, their addresses and your browsing history are never sent to the developer.
- The developer runs no server for the extension.
2. How documents are processed
Every library needed for rendering — Markdown conversion (markdown-it), code highlighting (highlight.js), diagrams (Mermaid) and math (KaTeX) — is bundled inside the extension; no code is loaded from an external CDN. Rendering and editing happen only inside your browser. When you download an edited document, the browser’s download feature saves it to your computer; it is not sent anywhere else.
3. Information stored only in your browser
The extension stores the following settings in the browser’s extension storage (chrome.storage.local). This storage lives only in this browser profile; the developer can’t receive or see it. Document content and page addresses are not stored.
| Information | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Enabled state, view mode, theme, centered layout, auto-refresh, sidebar visibility, auto index.md, language, and which plugins are on | To open documents with the same settings next time |
4. Permissions and why
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Read data on all websites (host permission) | Needed to render Markdown files at web addresses and to re-read the same file for auto-refresh. The rendering script runs only on pages whose address ends in .md, .mdx, .mkd or .markdown and on local file (file://) pages; it doesn’t read ordinary web pages. |
| activeTab | Needed to apply settings changed in the popup to the document in the current tab right away. |
| storage | Needed to save the settings in section 3. |
| Keyboard shortcuts (commands) | Needed for the sidebar, centered layout, auto-refresh and theme shortcuts. |
| File URL access (turned on by you) | Needed to render Markdown files on your computer that you open in the browser. The extension never looks for or reads other files. |
5. The extension’s network activity
- Auto-refresh: only when you turn it on, and only in Viewer mode, the extension re-reads the address of the open document at short intervals. Requests go only to the server hosting that document (or to the file on your computer) — never to the developer.
- Images and links in documents: if a document contains images hosted elsewhere, your browser loads them from those sites as it would for any web page, and those sites may receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address.
- On removal: when you remove the extension, Chrome opens a web page chosen by the developer once in a new tab. This is an ordinary page visit; the extension sends no additional information.
- Installation and updates through the Chrome Web Store are handled by Google under its own privacy policy. The developer only sees aggregate statistics provided by Google, such as install counts.
6. The website
- The website uses no cookies, analytics, advertising, external fonts or external scripts.
- The website is served from a web server at levelupsoft.com. The web server (including the front proxy) automatically keeps access logs for security and operations (troubleshooting and blocking abusive access). They record IP address, time of access, requested address, response status and bytes sent, and depending on server configuration may also record the referring page (Referer) and browser type (User-Agent).
- Legal basis: Article 15(1)(6) of the Personal Information Protection Act (legitimate interest in service security and troubleshooting). Processed without consent.
7. Information in inquiries
When you email us, we process your email address, your name (if given), the content of your message and any sample files you attach in order to reply. We use this only to answer and keep a record of the inquiry. Please don’t send confidential documents or personal information.
Legal basis: Article 15(1)(4) of the Personal Information Protection Act (taking action at the data subject’s request). Processed without consent.
8. Third parties, processors and transfers abroad
The developer does not provide or sell personal information to third parties, except where legally required. The extension sends no information, so there is no provision, outsourcing or transfer abroad through the extension.
Inquiry emails are received and stored with the following email service (processing on our behalf and transfer abroad):
| Recipient | Google LLC (Gmail), 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA · https://support.google.com/policies/ |
|---|---|
| Items transferred | Email address, name (if given), message content and attachments |
| Countries | The United States and other countries where Google operates data centers |
| When and how | Over the network when an inquiry email is received |
| Purpose | Receiving and storing inquiry emails |
| Retention | Same as inquiry information in section 9 |
| How to refuse and effect | Simply don’t send an inquiry by email. You won’t receive a reply, but your use of the extension is unaffected. |
9. Retention and deletion
- Extension settings: not held by the developer. The browser deletes them when you remove the extension.
- Web server access logs: kept for one year from collection, then deleted.
- Inquiry information: kept for one year after the inquiry is closed, then deleted.
- Information past its retention period is deleted without delay.
10. Your rights
You may ask to access, correct, delete or stop the processing of personal information the developer holds about you (such as inquiry information). Email the privacy officer below and we will act on your request and tell you the result within 10 days. You may also make a request through a legal representative or an authorized agent; please include a power of attorney. You can change the settings stored in your browser yourself, or delete them by removing the extension.
11. Security measures
- Extension: all required libraries bundled with no external code, no communication with the developer’s servers, the rendering script runs only on Markdown addresses, and distribution through Chrome Web Store review.
- Website and inquiry information: restricted access, and only the minimum information necessary is processed.
12. Children
The extension collects no one’s personal information, including children’s. The website and email inquiries handle only the information described in sections 6 and 7. If we learn that a child under 14 contacted us without a legal guardian’s consent, we delete that information without delay.

14. Changes to this policy
