Guide
Button names are written as they appear with the app language set to English. Menu names in the iOS Settings app may differ slightly between iOS versions.
1. Get the app
- Buy SSEM Fonts on the App Store (US$0.99, one-time purchase).
- You need an iPhone with iOS 16 or later.
2. Import fonts
Starting with version 1.1, 16 bundled fonts are added to the font list on first launch, so you can try installing one without importing anything. Import other fonts as follows.
- On the Fonts tab, tap + in the top-right corner (or Import Font when the list is empty) to open the file picker.
- Choose
.otf,.ttf, or.ttcfiles from the Files app, iCloud Drive, or a connected cloud provider. You can select several files at once. - For fonts you received as email or chat attachments, first use Save to Files from the share sheet, then import them. Unzip
.ziparchives in the Files app first by tapping them. - Imported fonts are copied into the app. Importing a file with the same name replaces the earlier copy.
3. Preview and font info
- Tap a font in the list to open its preview. Tap the preview text to type anything you like.
- Use the Size slider to try sizes from 12 pt to 72 pt.
- Font Info shows the name, file name, file size, date added, PostScript name, family, version, and copyright.
4. Install a font on your iPhone
iOS doesn’t let apps add system fonts directly, so SSEM Fonts packages the font in an Apple configuration profile (.mobileconfig).
- On the font’s detail screen, tap Install Font to System.
- On the install screen, tap Open in Safari.
- When Safari says “This website is trying to download a configuration profile,” tap Allow, then Close when you see “Profile Downloaded.”
- Open the Settings app and tap Profile Downloaded near the top, or go to Settings › General › VPN & Device Management and tap the font profile.
- Tap Install in the top-right corner, enter your passcode, and tap Install again to finish.
- Return to SSEM Fonts and tap Done to turn off the temporary install server.
It says “Not Verified.” iOS shows this because the profile is created on your iPhone by the app and isn’t signed with a certificate. The profile contains only the font you chose — nothing that changes device settings or allows remote management.
5. Use fonts in other apps
- Once installed, the font appears in the font list of Pages, Keynote, Numbers, and other apps that support user-installed fonts. If an app was already open, quit it completely and reopen it.
- The iOS system font (Home Screen, Messages, Settings, etc.) doesn’t change.
- Font lists usually show the font’s family name. Check it under Font Info in the app.
6. Remove an installed font
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to General › VPN & Device Management.
- Tap the font profile you want to remove.
- Tap Remove Profile and enter your passcode.
Deleting the SSEM Fonts app does not remove fonts you’ve already installed. Remove their profiles as shown above.
7. Manage fonts in the app
- Search: type a font name or file name in the Search fonts field above the list.
- Delete: swipe left on a font in the list. Settings › Delete All Font Data removes every font stored in the app at once. Fonts already installed on the system stay installed — remove them as in section 6.
- Bundled fonts: Settings › Bundled Fonts › Font Licenses shows each font’s copyright and the full SIL Open Font License. Bring back bundled fonts you deleted with Restore Bundled Fonts.
- Share: Share Font File on the detail screen sends the font file via AirDrop, the Files app, and more.
8. Change the app language
In Settings › Language › App Language, choose System Default or one of English, 한국어, 日本語, 简体中文, 繁體中文, Español, Français, Português, Bahasa Indonesia, Tiếng Việt, and Filipino, then tap Done.
